About Adam Berner

                         With more than 20 years of experience in family law, Adam Berner expertly guides clients through the difficult situation of divorce to reach the best possible resolutions. A leading attorney-mediator in New York and New Jersey, Adam utilizes his extensive training in mediation and collaborative law to help families that do not wish to escalate their conflicts find respectful solutions.

                         In addition to his private mediation and collaborative law practice, Adam is an experienced and sought after trainer, speaker and workshop leader in mediation and conflict resolution, having trained attorneys, court personnel, schools, clergy and corporate staff throughout the New York and New Jersey area. He is an Adjunct Professor at Cardozo School of Law where he teaches Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Family Law  classes in addition to having taught family law at the law school. Adam also served as the Director of Training at the New York Center for Interpersonal Developments' (NYCID) Mediation & Conflict Resolution Training Institute.

                        Adam is recognized as one of the most active and established attorney-mediators in his area. He is Past President of the Family & Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, Founding President of the North Jersey Collaborative Law Group, and Founding Member of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals.

About Amelia Nickles  

Amelia graduated from Columbia University School of Law in 1989 and practiced litigation at firms in New York City through 2002.  Amelia left the practice of litigation in 2002 as a partner in one of the leading matrimonial law firms in New York City, in the Family Law Department at Morrison, Cohen, Singer & Weinstein, LLP, having worked for the previous five years exclusively in the area of matrimonial litigation to pursue her passion in Mediation.  She has worked in the field of family mediation in both New York and New Jersey since 2005.  Amelia is also trained in the practice of Collaborative Law and has completed advanced trainings in the fields of both mediation and Collaborative Law. 

Amelia’s first-hand knowledge of the litigation of family disputes informs her passion that these issues are best resolved in a collaborative setting.  In addition, Amelia’s extensive knowledge of family law, gained from a litigation perspective, allows for a balanced and realistic view of the landscape facing her mediation clients.  Amelia’s practice of mediation utilizes the understanding based approach, relying on the firm belief that the parties are in the best position to make decisions about their life and their families based on an understanding of their own, as well as their partner’s, needs and values.
